Reappointment to the Health Information and Quality Authority - 11 March 2025

The Minister for Health Jennifer Carroll MacNeill has re-appointed Bernadette Costello as a member of the Health Information and Quality Authority with effect from 28 February 2025 until 27 February 2028.
Bernadette Costello
Bernadette Costello is a Chartered Accountant by profession and is a former Director of Internal Audit & Risk Management, University of Galway.
She started her professional career as a trainee accountant with PwC and has extensive senior executive experience in financial and management accounting, corporate governance, risk management and related areas.
Bernadette has served on a number of bodies including the Council of Chartered Accountants Ireland and Audit Committee (Chair), the Board of Accounting Technicians Ireland (Chair), the Board and Audit Committee of the National Treatment Purchase Fund, the Department of Rural and Community Development Audit Committee, the Quality Assurance and Risk Committee of the Child and Family Agency (Tulsa), the Saolta University Health Care Group Audit Committee,
Bernadette has served as a member of the Board of the Health Information and Quality Authority (HIQA) since 2020 and is the current Chairperson of HIQA’s Audit Risk and Governance Committee and a member of HIQA’s Resource Oversight Committee.
She is currently a member of the Board and the Audit and Risk Committee (Chair) of Oberstown Children Detention Campus, the Board and the Audit and Risk Committee (Chair) of the Irish Management Institute, the Board and the Audit and Risk Committee of Galway Harbour Company and a member of the Department of Finance Audit Committee.
Bernadette is a Chartered Director, a Chartered Accountant and holds a Bachelor of Commerce and Higher Diploma in Education from the University of Galway.
