Minister Harris announces Chair of the Independent Assessment Panel of the Cervical Check non-disclosure ex-gratia Scheme

Today, Tuesday 5 March 2019, the Minister for Health, Simon Harris TD, announced that the government has appointed Mr Justice Aindrias Ó’Caoimh as Chair of the Independent Assessment Panel for the Cervical Check non-disclosure ex-gratia Scheme. Mr Justice Ó’Caoimh is a former Judge of the High Court, and of the Court of Justice of the European Union.

The Scheme is designed to provide an alternative, non-adversarial and person-centred option for women affected by the CervicalCheck non-disclosure issue. The terms of the Scheme are now being finalised and they will be considered at next week’s Government meeting. Following this, the Minister will make a further announcement.

Following on from the Government meeting of 18 December, the Minister confirmed that he is to examine the early establishment of a non-statutory scheme to provide ex-gratia payments for the women affected by the non-disclosure of the audit.
