Information and supports for people who have to self-isolate or restrict their movements

COVID-19 is a highly infectious disease. Restricting movements and self-isolation are essential in preventing the spread of the virus.

While this can be challenging, taking these measures will help protect you and your family from COVID-19 as we roll out the national vaccination programme.

We know that most people are making their own plans and are supported by their friends and family when they need to self-isolate or restrict their movements. We also know that this is not easy, and many will struggle with it. This is why the government have brought together a broad range of information and supports in one easy to access location to help everyone make and stick to a plan that is best suited to them.

If you think you have symptoms of COVID-19 or you are a close contact, please follow the guidance below and contact your GP or the HSE immediately for further advice.

Restricting your movements means staying at home and avoiding contact with other people for 14 days

Self-isolation means staying indoors and completely avoiding contact with other people for 10 days and 5 days fever-free if symptomatic. This includes the people you live with

There are many supports available to you to help you make a plan that is best suited to you

Steps to stop the spread of COVID-19 in your home

  • open windows in shared areas such as the kitchen, living room and bathrooms
  • wash your hands regularly with soap and water
  • avoid sharing towels, facecloths
  • clean shared surfaces such as bathrooms and door handles regularly
