Director, National Patient Safety Office

Responsibility for leading the National Patient Safety Office in the Department. This includes providing national patient safety policy and leadership. It leads a programme of patient safety measures focused on patient safety legislation, extending the national clinical effectiveness framework, establishing a patient safety surveillance system, advancing health policy in relation to antimicrobial resistance (AMR), and supporting the Independent National Patient Safety Council. The NPSO identifies patient safety priorities and initiatives and acts as a liaison with the HSE in relation to patient safety incidents as required. The NPSO comprises four units of work: patient safety advocacy and legislation, AMR & clinical effectiveness, patient safety surveillance, and patient safety policy and governance.
