Principal Officer, Health Information Policy

Responsibility for leading on the development and implementation of digital-first national and EU legislation and policy for health information governance and infrastructure, to ensure the safe and timely access to health information for care and treatment and for secondary purposes. This unit is responsible for delivering of the Health Information Bill,; Strategic direction and oversight of national health data access through the establishment of a National Health Information Authority; Leading national engagement with the proposed EU regulation on the European Health Data Space (EHDS); Supporting the Department of Health’s compliance with the Data Sharing & Governance Act (2019). leading Irish inputs into the development of the new EU regulation on the European Health Data Space (EHDS), and the development of a national health data access body and related services. The unit is also responsible for ensuring ongoing compliance with the Data Sharing & Governance Act (2019) within the Department.
