If you are a tenant in a local authority home, you may be able to buy your home from the local authority at a discounted rate, subject to meeting the criteria of that scheme.
There are currently 3 schemes which can help you to do that. These are:
- Incremental Tenant Purchase Scheme for existing local authority houses, 2016
- Incremental Purchase Scheme for newly built houses, 2010
- Tenant Purchase of Apartments Scheme, 2012
Incremental Tenant Purchase Scheme for Existing Local Authority Houses (2016)
If you are a local authority tenant living in a local authority house included in the scheme you can apply to buy the house.

Incremental Purchase Scheme for Newly-Built Local Authority Houses (2010)
This scheme is open to existing tenants and households who have been assessed by the housing authority as being eligible and in need of social housing support. The local authority decides on the houses to be included under the scheme. They may only be new builds.

Tenant Purchase of Apartments Scheme (2012)
This scheme allows tenants of apartments in local authority complexes which are designated by the council for tenant purchase to buy their accommodation at a discount. An ownership structure involving a management company of which each apartment owner is a member will be required.
