Why are we launching a public consultation?
The National Parks and Wildlife Service is inviting members of the public, groups and organisations to have their say on the future development of Páirc Náisiúnta na Mara, Ciarraí.
Páirc Náisiúnta na Mara, Ciarraí brings together a suite of sites around the Dingle peninsula and nearby Kerry waters. Each of these sites has long been recognised individually as of outstanding importance, and the Páirc brings them together for the first time to be protected and celebrated collectively as a recognised National Park.
It is Ireland’s eighth and largest National Park, with more than 77,000 acres of lands and seas in public ownership included within the Páirc’s boundaries. The Páirc is centred around Corca Dhuibhne in Co. Kerry and includes sites at the Conor Pass, the Inch Peninsula, Mount Brandon and the Owenmore River, among others. A map of all of the sites included with Páirc Náisiúnta na Mara , Ciarraí can be found on The National Park's website.
The NPWS recognises the importance of consultation for the development and management of Páirc Náisiúnta na Mara, Ciarraí and is encouraging participation from members of the public and interested stakeholders, who are now being invited to make submissions.
These submissions will be used to inform and shape the development and management of this National Park. This national consultative process will build on the extensive engagement with local communities in Corca Dhuibhne which has already been carried out by the NPWS.
