Why we are launching a public dialogue/consultation
The National Parks and Wildlife Service, part of the Department of Housing, Local Government and Heritage, is seeking to engage with the public and a wide range of stakeholders about the National Parks in Ireland.
Currently there are eight National Parks in Ireland:
- Killarney National Park, Co. Kerry
- Páirc Náisiúnta na Mara, Ciarraí
- Wild Nephin National Park, Co. Mayo
- Connemara National Park, Co. Galway
- Burren National Park, Co. Clare
- Glenveagh National Park, Co. Donegal
- Wicklow Mountains National Park, Co. Wicklow
- Brú na Bóinne, Co. Meath
In addition to serving as important conservation areas, the National Parks serve as important amenities for locals and visitors from further afield. With a growing number of national conservation commitments coupled with a growing number of visitors to our Parks, the NPWS is seeking to engage with the public to understand their views of the National Parks and help inform a wide range of policy decisions, including:
- Visitor Services and Amenities
- Conservation Initiatives
- Infrastructure
- Legislation
- Stakeholder Engagement
