Providing Accessible Services
The National Disability Strategy and the Disability Act 2005 were established in an attempt to enable people with disabilities to participate fully in the economic, social and cultural life of the community. Significant responsibility has been put on all public bodies to ensure that services being provided to the public are accessible to all, including the availability of accessible information for people with disabilities.
Accessible Publications
We are committed, where practicable and where funding allows, to:
- ensuring that all forms and information leaflets will be made available in an accessible format where requested (a separate Accessible Information Request Form is available). We will also openly advertise the availability of this information to staff and members of the public
- considering the needs of customers in designing the forms, leaflets and publications prior to publication through the use of documents such as the NDA “First Steps in Producing Accessible Publications” and the RNIB “See it Right” Guidelines and Checklists
- ensuring that all our publications are written in as jargon free a language as possible. In cases were this is not possible, due to the nature and content of the document, staff will provide assistance, where requested
It may not be feasible for all public documents to be readily available in all formats, but we will consider any request received, having regard to customer needs and funding available.
Examples of Accessible Formats that may be available, on request:
- large print version
- audio version CD or memory stick
- braille
- easy to read format
- HTML electronic version
