35,358 homes commenced in first seven months of 2024

The Department of Housing, Local Government and Heritage has published its monthly data on the number of Commencement Notices (residential construction starts) for July 2024. There were 1,574 homes commenced in July 2024.
For the first seven months of 2024 (January-July), there were 35,358 homes commenced, close to double (up 91%) the 18,546 in those months of 2023. This equates to an average of around 240 homes commenced every working day this year.
In the last 12 months (August 2023 to July 2024) there have been 49,613 units commenced, up 72% from 28,916 in the prior 12 months (August 2022 to July 2023).
