Notice of appointment to the Board of the Residential Tenancies Board

The Minister for Housing, Local Government and Heritage on 30 October 2024 formally appointed three candidates to the Board of the Residential Tenancies Board, with effect from 1 November 2024.

The Minister has appointed the following candidates:

  • Yvonne Harris - 1 November 2024 to 31 October 2029
  • Gemma Barrett - 1 November 2024 to 31 October 2028
  • Brendan Foster - 1 November 2024 to 31 October 2028

This brings the Board membership to 12 persons.

The Residential Tenancies Board is an independent statutory agency established in 2004 under the Residential Tenancies Act and its main functions are to:

  • maintain a national register of tenancies
  • facilitate the resolution of disputes between tenants and landlords
  • take action to ensure compliance with rental law
  • provide relevant information to the public, tenants and landlords to ensure tenancies run smoothly; to provide reliable research, data and insights to inform policy
  • provide advice to the Minister on the rental sector

Originally limited to private tenancies, expansion in their functions over recent years has seen the RTBs remit expand to now include:

  • the private rental sector
  • approved housing body sector
  • cost rental sector
  • student-specific accommodation sector
