Alternative Approaches to Demonstrate Compliance with the Building Regulations

Technical Guidance Documents (TGDs) are published to accompany each part of the Building Regulations indicating how the requirements of that part can be achieved in practice.

However, the adoption of approaches other than those outlined in the TGDs are not precluded, provided that the relevant requirements of the Building Regulations are complied with. Those involved in the design and construction of a building may be required by the relevant building control authority to provide such evidence as is necessary to establish that the requirements of the regulations are being complied with.

The purpose of this information note is to provide clarity on the provisions of Article 7 of the Building Regulations 1997 (S.I. No 497 of 1997) (as amended) and a pathway for alternative approaches to demonstrate compliance with the Second Schedule to the Building Regulations.
