Climate Action

The global climate is changing and the changes underway will have consequences for Ireland in the future. It is necessary to address the long term causes of climate change through reducing our greenhouse gas emissions, while adapting to its effects over the short, medium and longer terms. The Government is committed to a long term climate policy based on the adoption of a series of national plans over the period to 2050, informed by United Nations and European Union policy.

Climate disruption is already having diverse and wide ranging impacts on Ireland's environment, society, economic and natural resources. The Climate Action Plan to Tackle Climate Breakdown is a whole of Government response which sets out an ambitious course of action over the coming years to address climate change by reducing greenhouse gas emissions and moving towards a low-carbon future.

The Department of Housing, Local Government and Heritage is developing and implementing policies and measures to address climate change across a variety of sectors:
