Day to Day Costs
The day to day costs of running the fire service are met by the fire authorities and are funded from local authority income.
Capital Programme Funding
The National Directorate for Fire and Emergency Management repays the Local Authority for money spent on the fire services for the construction and refurbishment of new fire stations and the purchase of fire appliances and rescue and emergency equipment.
Regional Control Centres - Streamlining Response
Three Regional Control Centres have streamlined the handling of all emergency calls for the fire brigades throughout the country. The Computer Aided Mobilisation Project (CAMP) now makes sure that a quick and efficient call service is available to the public when they need the emergency services. It makes sure that the closest fire brigades are sent to call outs quickly. The centres are located in Limerick, Dublin and Castlebar.
