Economic regulation
The Commission for Regulation of Utilities (CRU) is the economic regulator of Uisce Éireann. This means the CRU:
- decides the budgets and level of investment by Uisce Éireann
- decides the level of water charges for domestic and non-domestic customers
- examines disputes between Uisce Éireann and its customers

Environmental regulation
The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) is responsible for environmental regulation of water-related activities and water quality. In relation to Uisce Éireann, it regulates:
- drinking water quality
- sewerage treatment by Uisce Éireann and its discharges into water bodies
