Consultation on developing a strategy to combat Economic Crime and Corruption - Written Submissions

The Advisory Council against Economic Crime and Corruption (the Advisory Council) was established by Government in 2022 to advise and make proposals on strategic and policy matters and is responsible for developing a multi-annual strategy to combat economic crime and corruption.

A public consultation is now open to inform the drafting of the strategy. This consultation supplements the online public survey that was completed in November 2023.

Outlined below are broad themes that the Advisory Council may address in the strategy.

• Theme 1: Improve our collection, analysis and use of data to enable policymakers to develop evidence-informed policies to fight economic crime and corruption.
• Theme 2: Develop a cross-sectoral partnership to combat economic crime and corruption including through improved cooperation and information sharing.
• Theme 3: Ensure we have the resources and tools we need for the effective investigation and prosecution of economic crime and corruption.
• Theme 4: Develop and deliver coordinated communication campaigns to inform the public about fraud and economic crime threats.

The Advisory Council is now seeking the views of the public on what they feel should be addressed in the strategy to combat economic crime and corruption. Stakeholders and members of the public are asked to consider whether these are the right themes, whether they should be amended and consider if others should be added.
