Over 5,400 people from 143 countries become Irish citizens

Over the past two days, 5,400 individuals from 143 countries were granted Irish citizenship in six ceremonies held in the Convention Centre.

The ceremonies had Minister McEntee in attendance for the two days and Taoiseach Simon Harris was present for the opening ceremony. The ceremonies were presided over by Justice Deirdre Murphy and Justice Paddy McMahon.

Taoiseach Simon Harris said:

"I sincerely congratulate each and every one of you for choosing to become Irish."

Minister McEntee said:

"Over the past 2 days I have met doctors, nurses, care staff, business people, tradespeople and hospitality staff that have all made Ireland their home and make an immense contribution to our society."
