Senior Archivist Grade II in the Department of Justice.

An opportunity now exists for a suitably qualified and committed individual to take up the role of Senior Archivist Grade II in the Department of Justice.

The successful candidate will be expected to have strong functional skills and demonstrate leadership qualities and management skills, with the ability to support the development of the unit and manage staff. They will also be expected to have an ability to build effective relationships within the Department and with stakeholders.

The successful candidate must demonstrate the ability to work independently and effectively within the organisation and will report to the Records Manager, Records Management Unit, Coordination and Management Support, Transparency.

Essential Qualifications & Requirements

Candidates must, on or before the deadline:

  • Hold a qualification of at least level 8 on the National Framework of Qualifications in archival studies or records and information management from a course accredited by a professional body;
  • Have at least five years satisfactory post-qualification work experience as an archivist or records manager;
  • Have demonstrable knowledge of best professional practice and appropriate standards with regard to the management of records and archives;
  • Have demonstrable knowledge of current information and governance compliance requirements and legislation, e.g. National Archives Acts, 1986 and 2018; Data Protection Act, 2018, GDPR, FOI, copyright etc.;
  • Have excellent ITC skills including proficiency in working with Excel spreadsheets and archival and/or records management software and systems;
  • Excellent communication skill, team-working skills and ability to work in spirit of cooperation with staff in all grades;
  • Ability to work on own initiative, highly organised and details-orientated;
  • Experience of successfully managing a range of work projects at the same time.

Desirable Requirements

It is desirable that candidates should, on the date of application, have:

  • Experience of conducting records audits;
  • Experience of developing and implementing records retention schedules;
  • Experience of Freedom of Information legislation and related procedures;
  • Ability to manage teams of staff including, performance management, setting direction and career development;
  • Proven track records of working in a collaborative manner, sharing good practice and seeking to continuously improve archive and records management procedures;
  • Personal membership of a relevant professional body in archives and records management.
