The purpose of the General Scheme of the Courts (Establishment and Constitution) (Amendment) Bill 2018 is to increase the number of judges in the Court of Appeal by 6, bringing the number of judges in the Court to 16, that is, a President and 15 ordinary judges.
The proposed increase in the resources available to the Court of Appeal arises from the need to address the waiting times for cases to be heard in the Court of Appeal and will improve efficiency in the appellate process and the overall administration of justice.
