Claim fees and expenses as a witness with a professional qualification who attended court on behalf of the defence



Who can apply

Witnesses who hold professional qualifications (medical or otherwise) who were summoned and attended court on behalf of the defence to give professional evidence. The case the witness attended must have been one in which a certificate for free legal aid was granted.


What you can claim

You can claim back for:

  • your professional fee
  • subsistence allowance
  • travelling expense

How to apply

Download the below form and complete Part 1. Part 2 must be completed by the solicitor assigned under the certificate for free legal aid.

Part 3 must be completed by the District Court, County Registrar, or Registrar. Part 4 will be completed by the Department of Justice. You will be contacted once your application is processed.
