Introduction
The department adheres to the terms of the Prompt Payment Code of Conduct, which were set out in a government decision on 19 May 2009.
The objectives are to:
- encourage and promote best practice between businesses and their supplier
- improve cash flow between businesses
- drive a change in payment culture
- pay suppliers on time within the terms agreed at the outset of the contract, or in accordance with legislation
- give clear guidance to suppliers by providing them with clear and easily accessible guidance on payment procedures
The department publishes its prompt payments returns on a quarterly basis.
