University Hospital Limerick will design and pilot a new service for patients that have undergone a complete mastectomy and provide an option in availing of bespoke prostheses produced at the point of care.
Intended outcomes:
1. Develop a new series of workflow and protocols that support the creation of scans and bespoke prosthetic models using 3D printing.
2. Commence the enrolment and official launch of a new pilot service programme designed in producing custom-made prostheses for mastectomy patients.
3. Predicted 81% reduction in the associated time and costs in the delivery of bespoke prosthesis (€85 – €250 to €20 – €40 per prosthesis).
4. Provide a better staff user-experience and patient service delivery through upskilling and utilisation of innovative 3D printing technology.
