170 projects to benefit from funding in rural areas.
Michael Ring TD, Minister for Rural and Community Development, today (29 June 2018), announced details of €4.8 million to be awarded to 170 projects for safety measures for schools and communities under the 2018 CLÁR programme.
Speaking today, Minister Ring said:
“I am delighted to be in a position to announce €4.8m in funding from the CLÁR programme to improve safety around schools and community facilities in rural areas.
“The funding will allow for the installation of measures such as pedestrian crossings, flashing lights and speed indicators in villages and adjacent to schools and community facilities. These measures will help to keep not only our children, but all those who live in CLÁR areas, safe and that is to be welcomed.
“These initiatives have come from the communities themselves in co-operation with their Local Authorities and they are a great example of what can be achieved when everyone works together for the good of the community.
“I am delighted to be able to provide substantial CLÁR funding in order to ensure that these very worthwhile projects are delivered.
“There was a significant response to the call for funding under the three CLÁR Measures that I announced earlier this year and over 400 applications were received. After careful consideration, I decided that all qualifying projects under Measure 1 for School and Community Safety Measures would receive funding.
“Today’s announcement means that, since 2016, the CLÁR Programme has provided funding to over 1,000 projects in rural areas across the country.
"I will be announcing further successful projects very soon under the other two CLÁR Measures, covering Play Areas and First Response Supports.”
