The Rural Youth Assembly is a commitment in ‘Our Rural Future – Rural Development Policy 2021-2025’. The Department of Rural and Community Development (DRCD) has responsibility for this measure, which builds on the direct engagement with young people that commenced during the policy development and has continued since the policy was launched in March 2021.
The Assembly is co-hosted by DRCD and the Department of Children, Equality, Disability, Integration and Youth’s National Participation Office. The Assembly comprises a group of young people between the ages of 12-24 who discuss the challenges and opportunities associated with living, working and socialising in rural Ireland.
DRCD’s objectives of the event are:
- to continue our ongoing dialogue with young people
- to provide a platform for young people in rural Ireland to have their voices heard
- to workshop topics of importance for young people
- to produce recommendations for Government to consider in future Our Rural Future Work Programmes
