Minister Doherty announces a double fuel allowance payment for this week

Given the severity of the weather, the Government has decided to issue a double fuel allowance payment of €45 in respect of this week. It is hoped that this will offer certainty to those relying on fuel allowance and enable our customers to stay safe and warm during the severe weather.

This payment will issue automatically to all 331,000 recipients of fuel allowance. It will be processed next week and paid directly to customers in the following week commencing Monday March 12th. The extra payment of €22.50 will also be paid to those who have received the Fuel Allowance in lump sum payments.

Most people either pay for their fuel needs in arrears (e.g. gas, electricity) or in bulk (e.g. solid fuel/oil) so additional use of these fuels this week will not incur an immediate cost for the people concerned for a few weeks.
