Ministers Dara Calleary and Jennifer Murnane O’Connor visit Carlow Work and Skills Event

The Minister for Social Protection, Dara Calleary, today visited the Intreo Work and Skills recruitment and training event taking place at the Seven Oaks Hotel, Carlow.

Minister Calleary was joined on his visit by Minister of State at the Department of Health, Jennifer Murnane O’Connor.

The Ministers met with employers, education providers and visitors to the event which was hosted by the Department of Social Protection as part of its nationwide Intreo Work and Skills initiative.

Earlier in the day, the Ministers also visited staff at the Department of Social Protection’s Intreo Office on Kennedy Avenue in Carlow.

Commenting on the visit to Carlow, Minister Calleary said:

“I was delighted to visit the event at the Seven Oaks Hotel with my colleague Minister Murnane O’Connor, and to see such a positive atmosphere throughout the day.

"It was great to see so many people actively engaging with the employers and trainers. The opportunity to speak directly with employers about the jobs on offer is invaluable, while the advice from training providers will help them take the next step in their careers.

“It was also great to meet with staff from my department at the Carlow Intreo Centre and I want to thank them for their continued dedication and support.”

Intreo is the Government of Ireland’s public employment service, which is delivered by the Department of Social Protection as a single point of contact for all employment and income supports. It provides practical, tailored employment services and supports for both jobseekers and employers.

Intreo Work and Skills events provide jobseekers with an opportunity to connect with employers who are actively recruiting. Jobseekers can also learn about the training options available, and avail of job seeking advice to help them take the next step in their career.

Employers attending the Carlow Work and Skills event included Veolia Ireland Ltd, NUA Manufacturing, Murray Timber Group, Woodford Dolmen Hotel and the Defence Forces Ireland among many others. Some of the roles on offer include positions in hospitality, retail and construction, and jobs for mechanical and electrical technicians, mechanical and design engineers, quality controller and operative opportunities.

Several education providers were also at the event to advise on upskilling and retraining options.
