Annual Report 2022

The Annual Report for 2022 has now been published.

In the foreword of the report, Minister Heather Humphreys reflects on a year of strong performance and praises staff for responding with speed, professionalism, and humanity to an influx of 80,000 refugees fleeing war in Ukraine.

‘I am immensely proud to have led the department through what has been one of the most challenging times in the history of the State,’ she said.

The report highlights our effective and swift response to the needs of Ukrainians while continuing significant increases to existing social welfare schemes, as well as a range of once-off measures targeted at supporting people vulnerable with the increased costs of living.

Highlights of the 2022 Annual Report include:

  • the department facilitated more than 9,200 requests for in-person Ukrainian interpreters.
  • significant increases to a number of existing social welfare schemes, as well as a range of once-off measures targeted at supporting people made vulnerable in the context of increased costs of living.
  • approximately €1.1 billion in once-off supports paid out included, a double payment week for social welfare recipients, a €500 bonus for recipients of Disability, Illness and Carers schemes, a double Child Benefit payment, a Fuel Allowance Bonus, and a 100% Christmas Bonus payment for those getting a long-term social welfare payment.
  • supports for those impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic continued into 2022 at a cost of €1.2 billion.
  • 5.88 million Phone enquiries dealt with
  • 700,000 Public Services Cards issued
  • 306,000 PPS numbers allocated to customers
