Customer Overpayments – Repayment Options

The following repayment options are available you if you want to repay an overpayment to the department. Please note that these repayment options are available to individuals only.
The preferred method of payment is online or by phone.
Online Payment
Visit www.MyWelfare.ie to make a debit card payment online or to set up a direct debit.
To repay by debit card online, you need to have a MyGovID account.
To set up a direct debit online, you need to have a verified MyGovID account. You can set up a verified account if you have a Public Services Card and a verified mobile phone number.

A repayment can be made on behalf of yourself or on behalf of someone else.
How to make a repayment on MyWelfare
- log onto MyWelfare using your MyGovID account
- select statements, repayments and refunds chip and select make a repayment
- answer the questions on screen, choosing the type of repayment and amount
- once your repayment is submitted, you will receive a notification to your MyWelfare dashboard
By Phone
To repay by debit card over the phone:
Lo-call 0818 927999 and press option 5 (Republic of Ireland only) or call 071 9672591.
Bank Transfer
Set up a standing order at your bank or set up online directly to the department's bank account:
- Bank: Danske Bank
- BIC: DABAIE2D
- IBAN: IE61DABA95159950003921
- Payment Reference: PPS Number - This is essential and should be included on all payments, do not include any other text.
Direct Debit
You have two options for setting up a direct debit:
- set up a direct debit online, see Online Payment section above.
- lo-call 0818 927999 and press option 5 (Republic of Ireland only) or call 071 9672591 and request a Direct Debit Mandate to be posted to you
Cheque or Postal Order
Please make payable to The Accountant, Department of Social Protection and post to:
Central Debt Unit,
Shannon Lodge,
Carrick-on-Shannon,
Co Leitrim
Include PPSN on back of any cheques/postal orders.
