Responsibilities
Policy for the Supplementary Welfare Allowance (SWA) schemes. SWA includes Basic SWA, Exceptional Needs Payments, Urgent Needs Payments and SWA Supplements including Rent Supplement. The SWA Section is also responsible for the policy of the Humanitarian Assistance scheme which supports households affected by severe weather events and the Daily Expenses Allowance which is paid to applicants for international protection. SWA Section provides operational support to the Community Welfare Service which administers the SWA schemes and other schemes mentioned.
Policy and administrative responsibility for the School Meals Programme, which provides funding towards provision of food services for disadvantaged school children and the Back to School Clothing and Footwear Allowance scheme.
Implementation of the Fund for European Aid (FEAD) programme 2014 - 2020 in Ireland. The Programme is being delivered through the ‘not for profit sector’ to meet the needs of those most deprived and at the margins of society, through the provision of food and basic material assistance.
