What Constant Attendance Allowance is

The Constant Attendance Allowance is an increase to Disablement Benefit.

You get Disablement Benefit if you lose your physical or mental ability because of work. This may be due to an accident at work or a work-related illness.

If you need daily care because of your accident at work or work-related illness, you can get the Constant Attendance Allowance. This care may be help with washing, dressing, eating or other basic needs.


How to qualify

You must be getting a Disablement Pension of over 50%. Your level of disablement is assessed by the department’s medical advisor.


Rates of payment

The payment is €261 per week. This does not rely on the level of care needed.

You will not get the allowance during stays in a hospital or other institutions.

You can receive Constant Attendance Allowance outside of the State, once you remain within the EU. You must be in need of care and the length of time you are away must be less than 6 months.


Apply

You can only get the Constant Attendance Allowance if the department’s medical advisor recommends it.
