What the COVID-19 Part Time Job Incentive for the Self-Employed is

The COVID-19 Part-Time Job Incentive Scheme for the self-employed has closed.

The scheme was available to self-employed people who were in receipt of the COVID-19 Pandemic Unemployment Payment or a Jobseeker’s payment in the week immediately prior to their application.

The scheme closed on the 1 June 2022. The final payment was made on 31 May 2022.


How to qualify

The COVID-19 Part-Time Job Incentive Scheme for the self-employed closed on the 1 June 2022. You can no longer apply for this payment.

You were eligible for this payment if you:

  • were self-employed
  • were tax and PRSI compliant
  • were aged over 18 and under 66 years
  • were resident in Ireland
  • received the COVID-19 Pandemic Unemployment Payment or a Jobseeker’s payment in the week immediately prior to your application
  • returned to self-employment for up to a maximum 24 hours per week (there was no limit on the amount you could earn)
  • submitted a monthly statement of hours worked each week
  • were genuinely seeking to increase your level of work

Rate of payment

There were 2 rates of weekly payment:

  • €131.80 - personal rate
  • €214.90 if you were paid an increase for a qualified adult on your previous jobseeker’s claim

This payment closed to new applicants on 1 June 2022 and you can no longer apply.

If you are continuing to operate your business at reduced levels you may be eligible for support under the means tested Jobseeker's Allowance scheme.

If you wish to proceed with a Jobseeker’s Allowance claim you can apply online through www.MyWelfare.ie or by contacting your local Intreo Centre or Social Welfare Branch Office for the application forms.
