What the Recovery of Benefits and Assistance Scheme is
Through the Recovery of Benefits and Assistance Scheme (RBA) the department is able to recover some illness-related social welfare payments. These are recovered from compensation awards made to people due to personal injury claims.
The benefits are recovered from the body that provides the compensation and not from the injured person.
The illness-related social welfare payments that can be recovered under this scheme are:
Apply
The body paying the compensation must apply for a statement of recoverable benefits on the RBA01 application form before making a compensation payment to an injured person.
You can also apply for statements by secure e-mail, by arrangement with the department. We will send the statements by post.
The Personal Injuries Assessment Board (PIAB) must also apply for a statement before sending an order to pay.
We will send the statement within 4 weeks of the date the application was received.
