Engagement programme

Climate Actions Work is a new, first of its kind national engagement and communications campaign to support and encourage action on climate and community resilience.

This campaign will focus on local people and places, encouraging and supporting climate actions that are designed and developed by communities themselves.

Climate Actions Work empowers local communities to build on their existing climate actions across three key areas:

• Improve climate awareness and understanding through education and communication.

• Fund and support local and national climate action, public consultations, and encourage sustainable behaviours.

• Gather insights from public engagement and research to shape Ireland’s Climate Action Plan and policies.

Local Community Engagement Events

As part of the Climate Actions Work initiative a number of community focused events were hosted by the Department. This includes events focused on the Dublin 8 area, Greystones Co. Wicklow and Carndonagh Co. Donegal.

These events allowed communities to come together and share what is going on within their area and provided a structured workshop element where communities could discuss what climate actions could be most relevant and beneficial for their area.

Climate Conversations

The Climate Conversations are a consultation and engagement process ran by government every year in order to hear from as many people as possible. Through a range of surveys, interviews and focus groups, we aim to find out what climate issues are most important to people.

Your feedback directly shapes Ireland’s Climate Action Plan.

The 2025 Climate Conversations will open in May 2025.

National Climate Stakeholder Forum (NCSF)

The National Climate Stakeholder Forum (NCSF) was established by the Department of the Environment, Climate and Communications to function as a consultative forum on climate issues.

Since 2021 the Department has hosted five Forums which have had over 1,000 attendees. On the day participants hear updates from the six Climate Action Taskforces, presentations from successful climate action projects and attend deliberative workshops to discuss climate action issues relevant to their area.

The National Youth Assembly on Climate

The National Youth Assembly on Climate (NYAC) is a forum where young people aged between 12 – 24 years, from across the country, are provided with the opportunity to make recommendations directly to Government to inform the Climate Action Plan.

Approximately 70 young delegates from Comhairle na nÓg (Local Youth Councils), various youth organisations and climate organisations are contribute their ideas and recommendations at the Assembly.
