Ireland has expressed its intention, through a national policy position, to transition to a low carbon economy by 2050.
This policy framework represents the first step in communicating the government's longer term national vision for decarbonising transport by 2050, the cornerstone of which is the ambition that by 2030 all new cars and vans sold in Ireland will be zero-emissions capable.
The commitment of the energy sector to do the same is reflected in the The White Paper: Ireland's Transition to a Low Carbon Energy Future 2015-2030. Transport, as part of the energy sector, will make its contribution to this transition.
