Regional Seismic Survey (2013-2014)
In 2013 and 2014, a major 2D regional seismic survey was undertaken by the department in conjunction with ENI Ireland BV over Ireland's Atlantic frontier basins. The Regional Seismic Survey acquired 16,800 km of full-fold 2D regional seismic data and gravity and magnetic data. A map showing the coverage of the survey can be viewed here.
This is the largest seismic survey acquired in the Irish offshore, and provides a regional grid of high-quality seismic data over Ireland's frontier basins, infilling existing surveys and providing new coverage to fill data gaps. In June 2015, this project was awarded Winner in the Offshore Ireland category of the Maritime Industry Awards.
The data will aid in the understanding of Ireland’s offshore basins and will be of particular interest to government, industry and researchers.
The data acquired in the survey are now available from the department at no cost other than an administration fee. Information on the different types of data available can be found below.

PreSTM and Gravity/Magnetic Data
The 2013 and 2014 2D PreSTM seismic, velocity, gravity and magnetic datasets are currently available from the department.
Datasets available are:
- 2013/2014 PreSTM and velocity - complete survey
- 2013/2014 PreSTM and velocity – by basin (Porcupine Basin, Rockall Basin, Hatton Basin, Conjugate Margin)
- 2013/2014 PreSTM and velocity – by individual line (entire line only)
- 2013/2014 gravity and/or magnetic profile data - complete survey
All datasets will include acquisition/processing reports and navigation data.
Separate terms and conditions will apply for data access in respect of:
- exploration company use (interpretation)
- commercial use (derivative/value added products).
- academic use by academic institutions and bona fide researchers
Field Data
The 2013 and 2014 Field datasets are currently available from the department. Field datasets are delivered on portable digital media at copying and delivery cost.
Datasets available are:
- 2013/2014 field data - complete survey
- 2013/2014 field data – by individual line (entire line only)
All datasets will include supplemental information (line logs, observer logs, navigation, and so on.)
Separate terms and conditions will apply for data access in respect of:
- exploration company use (interpretation)
