The Principal Officer Wholesale Electricity Policy and Security of Supply is responsible for
- Ensuring sufficient dispatchable electricity generation capacity to meet growing economic and consumer needs; supporting a rapid transition to renewables with fair and competitive prices on an all-island basis
- Delivery of at least 2 GWs of new flexible gas-fired generation
- Working within the updated European Electricity Market Design to continue to reduce emissions associated with Ireland's conventional capacity over the medium-term
- Electricity Security of Supply – Complete the implementation of the CRU Security of Electricity Supply Programme including delivery of Temporary Emergency Generation
- Enhanced monitoring and delivery support of capacity market projects
- Supporting all-island structures which enable the Single Electricity Market on the island of Ireland, including through the Joint Steering Group with Northern Ireland
- Ensuring efficient market trading relationships for electricity with interconnected countries
- Engagement with UK, EU, International Energy Agency (IEA) and other international agencies on energy security and markets
- Publication of an independent review of Ireland's electricity security
