Call for submissions

The Department of the Taoiseach supports the Taoiseach as Head of Government and works with all Government Departments to implement the Government‘s Programme. The Department’s activities relate to the executive functions of the Taoiseach and the Government: the Government Secretariat; the Taoiseach’s Private Office; the Office of the Government Chief Whip; the Office of the Tánaiste, the Office of the Green Party Leader and the Offices of the Ministers of State assigned to the Department.

Core activities include supporting the Taoiseach in carrying out his duties as Head of Government in relation to the Oireachtas, Constitutional issues, Protocol, the European Council, the North South Ministerial Council and the British Irish Council; the Government Secretariat and the Government Information Service; engaging with the formulation and implementation of government policy, mainly through the system of Cabinet Committees; support for the Ministers of State assigned to the Department; providing briefing and advice for the Taoiseach on the full range of domestic, EU and international policy issues.

The Department of the Taoiseach is currently preparing its Statement of Strategy for the period 2020 to 2023 and invites members of the public and any interested parties to submit their views as the Department seeks to define its high-level goals and objectives for the next three years, as well as the strategies to be used to achieve them. This work will reflect the important role for the Department in key national priorities over the coming period including COVID-19, the Economy, BREXIT and the establishment of a new Shared Island Unit, building on the current Strategy Statement which set out six strategic priorities for the Department as follows:

  • Support for the Taoiseach and Government
  • A Sustainable Economy
  • A Better Society
  • Strong relationships in Europe and in the World
  • Brexit
  • Planning for the Future
