Minister of State appointment - 27 June 2024

The government on the nomination of the Taoiseach, Simon Harris, has formally appointed a Minister of State and assigned his responsibilities.

The appointment comprises:

Minister of State: James Lawless

Minister of State at the Department of Transport with special responsibility for International and Road Transport and Logistics and at the Department of the Environment, Climate and Communications with special responsibility for Postal Policy.

Dara Calleary, who is currently Minister of State at the Department of Enterprise, Trade and Employment with special responsibility for Trade Promotion and Digital Transformation will attend meetings of the government.

Speaking this evening, the Taoiseach said:

“I want to congratulate both Dara and James and look forward to continuing working with them both.

“Dara has worked hard as Minister of State and will bring this experience to government meetings with a focus on trade promotion and digital transformation.

“James has an important portfolio with responsibility for road transport and postal policy.”

Tánaiste Micheál Martin said:

“I want to congratulate both Dara and James on their appointments.

“Dara has been a very effective Minister of State in his role in the Department of Enterprise, Trade and Employment and now brings that experience and focus on the SME and digital sector to the Cabinet table.

“James has a long-held interest in transport issues, and in particular developing public transport and road infrastructure. I wish him all the best in his new role.”
