Statement by Taoiseach Micheál Martin on latest Russian attacks on Ukraine

“I strongly condemn Russia’s unprecedented drone and missile attack on Kyiv last night - the largest since Russia’s full-scale invasion of war. Once again, civilians were targeted. A mother and child lost their lives. The loss of innocent lives is both heartbreaking and unacceptable.

I send my condolences to President Zelenskyy and the people of Ukraine who continue to show remarkable strength in the face of Russian brutality. Russia’s actions are illegal and a war crime.

Last night’s attack once again shows that President Putin is only interested in executing his war of aggression and terrorising the people of Ukraine. Ireland will continue to work with partners to exert more pressure on Russia to agree to an unconditional ceasefire. The killing must stop.

Our support for Ukraine is steadfast, and I will continue to work with President Zelenskyy and as a member of the Coalition of the Willing to achieve a just and lasting peace for Ukraine that fully respects the UN charter.”
