Statement following the Taoiseach’s call with the Norwegian Prime Minister

Taoiseach Simon Harris today spoke with the Norwegian Prime Minister, Jonas Gahr Støre.

The Taoiseach briefed Prime Minister Støre on Ireland’s plan to recognise the State of Palestine in under two weeks.

The leaders agreed to remain in close consultation in the days ahead.

The Taoiseach also briefed the Prime Minister of Norway on his ongoing work work with Prime Minister Sanchez of Spain and his engagements this week with King Abdullah of Jordan, President Herzog of Israel and Prime Minister Golob of Slovenia.

The pair agreed that the deteriorating humanitarian conditions in Gaza underscored the need for an immediate ceasefire and for unhindered access for aid.

Finally, the Taoiseach wished a happy Norway Day to the people of Norway and wished them well with their weekend celebrations.
