"Today, 11 July, is the International Day of Reflection and Commemoration of the 1995 Genocide in Srebrenica.
"It also marks the 29th anniversary of one of the most horrific atrocities ever to take place on our European continent, when over 8,000 men and boys were systematically murdered simply because of who they were, and the lives of their loved ones and their wider communities torn apart forever.
"In remembering this tragedy today, we honour the victims and acknowledge the profound suffering endured by their families and their wider communities.
"The determination of the Bosnian community, both in Ireland, in Bosnia-Herzegovina, and in the wider world to keep the memory of Srebrenica and its victims alive is honourable.
"The entire international community must also commit to this endeavour to order to educate today’s generation and future generations of the dangers of hatred and to do all we can to prevent genocides as witnessed in Srebrenica happening again.
"The values of tolerance and respect are more important than ever in Bosnia-Herzegovina’s multi-ethnic society. The Government of Ireland strongly supports Bosnia-Herzegovina’s endeavours to promote peace and reconciliation, as well as the country’s commitment to its future within the EU."
