Taoiseach Simon Harris welcomes President of Moldova to Ireland

Taoiseach, Simon Harris, will today welcome Moldovan President, Maia Sandu, to Farmleigh.

It will be the first visit of a Moldovan President to Ireland and comes ahead of Ireland opening an embassy in the former soviet country to strengthen our bilateral ties.

The Taoiseach will assure President Sandu of his, and Ireland’s, ongoing support for Moldova’s bid to become an EU member state.

Simon Harris will praise President Sandu’s leadership of the country of 2.5 million people in the face of Russian aggression and intimidation.

He will also thank the President for the role Moldova played in opening its borders to its Ukrainian neighbours following the Russian invasion and for the vital consular role Moldova played in helping Irish citizens caught up in the conflict.
