Easter Sunday: Commemoration to mark the Anniversary of the 1916 Rising

A ceremony to mark the Anniversary of the 1916 Easter Rising is held at noon outside the GPO, O’Connell Street, Dublin on Easter Sunday. The Ceremony is led by the President of Ireland, An Taoiseach and the Minister of State with responsibility for Defence.
Defence Forces Personnel, including a brass band, a pipe band and representatives of the Army, the Air Corps and the Naval Service take part in the Ceremony, which concludes with an Air Corps fly past. At noon the National Flag is lowered and the 1916 Proclamation is read by an Officer from the Defence Forces. The President lays a wreath to commemorate those who died in 1916, which is followed by a minute’s silence.
The ceremony is open to the public and attendees are required to be in attendance at 11:30 a.m.

Centenary Celebrations - 2016
The State’s Programme for 2016 was launched in April 2015. Ireland 2016 was an ambitious and wide-ranging national commemorative initiative, embracing seven distinct programme strands each with an extensive programme of events: State Ceremonial, Historical Reflection, An Teanga Bheo, Youth and Imagination, Cultural Expression, Community Participation and Global and Diaspora.
Attached is a list of State Ceremonial events that took place during 2016. In addition to the State Ceremonial events each County had a series of events to mark the centenary year.
