Travelling abroad from Ireland

Given the current domestic and international situation, the safest thing to do is not to travel abroad.

It is recognised that many people need to travel to and from Ireland to carry out essential functions. There are also essential supply chains from overseas relying on these routes and connectivity bringing food, medicines and other products to Ireland which are critical to our health and for economic activity. For that reason international travel must continue.

We are asking passengers who arrive into Ireland to restrict their movements to limit the potential of importing COVID-19 and infecting their families, communities and workplaces.

There are a small number of locations for which the advice is different. In respect of these locations, Government has agreed that the Department of Foreign Affairs Travel Advice for them is 'normal precautions'.

People arriving from these locations are not asked to restrict their movements but should follow the public health advice that applies to everyone in Ireland.

The COVID-19 Green List is reviewed on a regular basis, based on advice from officials including public health experts, and will be further updated if required.

The COVID-19 pandemic continues to accelerate internationally. There are significant risks associated with international travel and there are limitations on the consular assistance that could be provided.

Should you travel, you should inform yourself about any requirements in place in the destination to which you are travelling.

Flight restrictions and route cancellations are happening on a daily basis worldwide and there is no guarantee that air routes will continue to operate as scheduled.

Testing and restrictions may be imposed or may already be in place in other locations. It is also important to check with your insurance provider on coverage at this time.
