Principal Officer, Economic Policy Unit


Responsibilities

The Economic Policy Unit advises the Taoiseach on economic policy aimed at a sustainable and resilient economy with a particular focus on jobs, productivity, competitiveness, labour market, enterprise, and skills issues. It maintains an overview of progress in key policy and sectoral areas in line with Government priorities. It supports the work of related Cabinet Committees and inter-departmental Senior Officials’ Groups. It coordinates Ireland’s National Reform Programme, which is produced and submitted to the European Commission each April as part of the European Semester process. The Unit also liaises closely with the Central Statistics Office (CSO) – the independent national body responsible for collating and publishing official statistics.

Social Dialogue Unit coordinates and support the Governments approach to social dialogue. It also supports engagement with the social partners, including through existing mechanisms such as the Labour Employer Economic Forum.
