Primary Responsibility
The primary responsibility of Údarás na Gaeltachta is to develop the Gaeltacht economy in order to preserve and enrich the Irish language as its principal language. Údarás na Gaeltachta was established in 1980 and pursues strategic aims in the areas of industrial, regional and human resources development. An tÚdarás is also involved in community, cultural and language development activities. More information is available at www.udaras.ie.
On 31 May 2011, the Government decided that Údarás na Gaeltachta would act as the implementation body for the 20-Year Strategy for the Irish Language 2010-2030 in the Gaeltacht.
Employment
At the end of 2018, total employment in An tÚdarás client companies stood at 8,207 comprised of 7,625 full time posts and 582 part time posts.
