The 20 Year Strategy for the Irish Language 2010-2030 is the cornerstone of the government's policy on the Irish language and, as such, its implementation is a key priority for the department as it relates to the Irish language and the Gaeltacht.
The strategy contains a range of recommendations relating to the nine areas set out in it: Education; the Gaeltacht; Early Intervention of the Language by the Family; Administration; Services and Communities; Media and Technology; Dictionaries; Legislation and Status; Economic Life and Broad Initiatives.
The Department of Tourism, Culture, Arts, Gaeltacht, Sport and Media has overall responsibility for co-ordinating the implementation of the Strategy. The Action Plan 2018-2022 sets out what the department and all other stakeholders intend to do to oversee the implementation of the Strategy over the five year period to 2022.
The department's own contribution to the benefits of implementing the Strategy as it applies to Irish language initiatives outside the Gaeltacht, within the Gaeltacht and internationally is outlined below.
