Minister Byrne opens linear walkway in Dunboyne, Co. Meath

Minister of State for Sport and Physical Education, Thomas Byrne, today (7 June 2023) officially opened the new Linear Walkway in Dunboyne County Meath. The project was allocated €2 million under the department’s Large Scale Sports Infrastructure Fund (LSSIF). The overall project consists of a linear walkway as well as multiple playing pitches. Today’s opening consists of the linear walkway element which links Rooske Road with Main Street/Maynooth Road as well as linking the playing pitches to the existing public park. The playing fields, all weather pitch and changing facilities are expected to be complete later this year.

Speaking at the official opening, Minister Byrne said:

“I’m thrilled to open this new walkway in Dunboyne which is a superb addition to the community. It is heartening to see how popular the new facility already is amongst walkers, joggers and cyclists. The recent good weather has given us all an opportunity to exercise outdoors and it is wonderful to see the outdoor gym equipment now in use.

“This is the first Large Scale Sports Infrastructure Fund project to officially open and it gives me particular pleasure to see it delivered in Meath. I would like to congratulate all involved in this project, particularly the staff of Meath County Council, who had the vision and dedication to advance the proposal. I am committed to delivering substantial investment in sports facilities into the future and I look forward to seeing a number of other important large scale sports projects progressing throughout the country in the months ahead.”
