Minister for Tourism, Culture, Arts, Gaeltacht, Sport and Media, Catherine Martin, today announced the appointment a new Chair of the Abbey Theatre
Minister Catherine Martin T.D. has announced the appointment of John Cronin as Chair of the Abbey Theatre.
The appointment takes effect from today for a term of 4 years and follows an open call for expressions of interest advertised by the Public Appointments Service.
Commenting on the appointment, Minister Martin said:
"I am pleased to announce the appointment of John Cronin as the new Chair of the Board of the Abbey Theatre, effective 1 August 2024. I extend my congratulations and gratitude to John for accepting this important position. As Chair of the Board John will play a crucial role in the governance, oversight, and strategic direction of the Abbey Theatre. I am confident that John will contribute his extensive experience and vision to the Abbey Theatre and wish him success in his role over the next four years.”

John Cronin
John Cronin is a former Chair and Managing Partner at law firm McCann FitzGerald Solicitors. John Cronin served for almost three years as a non-executive Director of the Dublin Theatre Festival. Separately, he was a non-executive director at Kingspan Group for nine years and is a former President and board member of the British Irish Chamber of Commerce. He has a consultancy role with Kildare Village/Value Retail and holds advisory positions with some overseas entities.
