Geographic Information System (GIS) – Gaeltacht Language Planning Areas, Gaeltacht Service Towns and Irish Language Networks

In order to further support the implementation of the language planning process in the Gaeltacht, the Department of Tourism, Gaeltacht, Culture, Media and Sport have developed a Geographic Information system (GIS).
Under the system, census data for 2011 and 2016 is presented regarding Irish language usage by Gaeltacht Language Planning Area, Gaeltacht Service Towns and Irish Language Networks. Information provided by the Department of Education and the Department of Children, Equality, Disability, Integration and Youth, respectively, regarding the location and enrolment numbers of primary and post-primary schools in respect of the school year 2016/17 is presented, as well as the early years education sector.
